The Picture Framing Process

Tissue mount is a dry mount product. Unlike certain gummed hinging tapes, which need water applied to the tape to activate the adhesive, dry mount tissue needs no water in order to work. This is an important consideration when using it with photographs, because photos do not usually take kindly to coming into contact with water. It tends to discolor and damage the surface of the photo.

Mounting tissue is a great product to use if you have a lightweight piece of artwork. With heavier hinging tape, the artwork could be damaged in the process of framing it, but not so with dry mount hinging tissue. It is an excellent solution when you want to use it in conjunction with photographs or translucent pieces of artwork.

Photographs are traditionally framed in sleek contemporary thin metal frames with wide white mat board to edge them. This helps to throw all the focus on the artwork within the frame. Paintings are often framed in wooden frames that are color coordinated along with the mat to enhance the look of the artwork. These are also easier to mix with more casual home decorating styles.
